Bernardo Eggers Reccius

Nació el 31 de marzo de 1942 en la ciudad de Osorno, siendo él la cuarta generación de descendientes alemanes en la zona. 

Agricultor, artista fotográfico y coleccionista, vive en el fundo “Moncopulli,” ubicado en la comuna de Puyehue, Región de Los Lagos. 

Desde niño mostró claras preferencias por todo lo relacionado con automóviles, coleccionando folletos y recortes de diferentes marcas de vehículos, los cuales podemos observar como parte de la colección expuesta.

La incursión en la fotografía comienza a los doce años, cuando toma sus primeras ocho fotografías con la cámara de cajón Voigtländer de su padre, imágenes que aún conserva junto a sus respectivos negativos. 

En los años ochenta participó de la reorganización del ahora Foto Club Osorno, siendo en los primeros años su presidente. 

Diversas exposiciones fotográficas, diaporamas exhibidos en diferentes lugares de Chile y la participación en concursos nacionales y extranjeros, le han valido el título de “Artista de la Federación Chilena de Fotografía” el año 1991, y posteriormente, el año 1994, en la ciudad de Barcelona, España, es nombrado “Artista FIAP (AFIAP)“por la Federación Internacional del Arte Fotográfico, dándole reconocimiento internacional.

En el año 1996, y por más de nueve años, impartió clases de fotografía en la escuela de Arquitectura y Diseño en la Universidad de los Lagos, sede Osorno. 

           Actualmente, figura en el listado de jurados de fotografía nacional.

Tras la adquisición de algunos vehículos de la marca Studebaker e inspirado en el recuerdo de la pickup 2R5 año 1949 de su padre, el día 17 de noviembre de 1995, Bernardo Eggers junto a su familia, inauguran el primer museo de automóviles antiguos y clásicos de Chile, “Auto Museum Moncopulli”, con el propósito de preservar el patrimonio cultural, abriendo sus puertas a la comunidad con 25 vehículos, dedicado principalmente a la hoy desaparecida marca norteamericana Studebaker. 

El año 2011, Bernardo Eggers Reccius es mencionado como uno de los 200 héroes anónimos, de los cuales relata la Bitácora del Bicentenario de Chile, “Vida y Sueño de los Chilenos”. 

Declarado, además, “Hijo Ilustre de la ciudad de Osorno” el año 2013.

El museo cuenta hoy, entre adquisiciones y diferentes donaciones, con una colección de más de 150 vehículos de diferentes marcas, destacando la mayor colección Studebaker fuera de los Estados Unidos, perteneciendo además, como socio a Studebaker Drivers Club y a The Antique Studebaker Club en dicho país.

           También se pueden apreciar colecciones de cámaras fotográficas, trenes a escala, juguetes, diferentes enseres y maquinaria agrícola utilizada en el siglo pasado. 

          Ambientado junto a música americana de los años cincuenta, “Auto Museum Moncopulli” invita a todo su público a “conocer el pasado para valorar el presente y proyectar el futuro”.

Bernardo Eggers Reccius

He was born on March 31, 1942 in the city of Osorno, being the fourth generation of German descendants in the area.

A farmer, photographic artist and collector, he lives in the “Moncopulli Farm”, located in the commune of Puyehue, Los Lagos Region.

Since he was a child, he showed clear preferences for everything related to automobiles, collecting brochures and clippings of different brands of vehicles, which we can see as part of the exhibited collection.

His incursion into photography began when he was twelve, and it is when he took his first eight photographs with his father’s Voigtländer box camera, images that he still keeps along with their respective negatives.

In the eighties, he participated in the reorganization of what is now the “Foto Club Osorno”, and he was its president in the early years.

Various photographic exhibitions, slideshows exhibited in different places in Chile and his participation in national and foreign competitions, have earned him the title of «Artist of the Chilean Federation of Photography» in 1991, and later, in 1994, in the city of Barcelona, ​​Spain, he was named «FIAP Artist (AFIAP)» by the International Federation of Photographic Art, giving him international recognition.

In 1996, and for more than nine years, he taught Photography at the School of Architecture and Design at the Universidad de los Lagos, in the campus of Osorno.

Nowadays, he appears on the list of national photography juries.

After the acquisition of some Studebaker brand vehicles and inspired by the memory of his father’s 1949 2R5 pickup, on November 17, 1995, Bernardo Eggers, together with his family, inaugurated the first museum of vintage and classic automobiles in Chile, the «Auto Museum Moncopulli», with the purpose of preserving cultural heritage. It opened its doors to the community with 25 vehicles, dedicated mainly to the now extinct North American brand “Studebaker”.

In 2011, Bernardo Eggers Reccius is mentioned as one of the 200 anonymous heroes, of whom the Bicentennial Booklog of Chile «Life and Dream of Chileans» tells about.

Also, he is declared «Illustrious Son of the City of Osorno» in 2013.

Today, the museum is formed by many acquisitions as well as different donations. It has a collection of more than 150 vehicles of different brands.

It outstands due to the fact that it is the largest Studebaker collection outside the United States. Further more, it is a fellow member of the Studebaker Drivers Club and of The Antique Studebaker Club in that country.

You can also see collections of cameras, model trains, toys, different chattels and agricultural machinery which were used in the last century.

It is harmoniously set and American music of the 1950´s warmly wraps you.

The “Auto Museum Moncopulli” invites its entire audience “to learn about the past in order to value the present and to project the future”.
